Reading An Aspiring Professional Everything
| On Possibilities Posted on Saturday, the 3rd of January 2009 at 10:00 am by John DeLancey |
As I begin to think of reaching out into the various academic and professional communities on behalf of The Aspiring Professional, I am struck by one thing: that there are far, far too many possibilities for TAP than I am yet prepared to confront.
This is an exciting, wonderful thing. I have never before undertaken a project with such potential. It's also scary -- with that potential for greatness comes also the potential for dismal failure. Really, though, it's those possibilities alone that drive me to continue, and this is a truth in every aspect of my life.
I am a married man. I married my wife because I love her. I also married her for the myriad possibilities that lie ahead of us. The possibility of a long and happy future together was the first and greatest one. The possibilities for our children and grandchildren are the next.
I work with my father on an art education mission in Central America. Honduras is not what one might call the "land of opportunity," unless he knows where to look for it. The possibilities for us and for the people of those Honduran villages are boundless. We hope and plan to provide a tool for escaping poverty to as many people as we can through such a rich endeavor as the creation of art. That's a hell of a possibility.
For The Aspiring Professional, too, the possibilities are endless. I am currently planning scholarship programs for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, sponsored by and supported through TAP. I am looking for partners around the academic and professional communities to combine our talents and resources for the good of our community members. I hope to foster relationships that might one day lead to cross-discipline research by providing tools and resources for the members of those disciplines. The list goes on and forever on.
In the end, it's all about the possibilities. What is certain is also nearly always boring. It's what might be that holds my interest. Here's to the possibilities, folks!
Sláinte,
John
